Holman received his bachelor's degree from BYU in communications in 1989 and a master's degree in dance in 1996. While at BYU, Holman was a member of the Ballroom Dance Company. His thesis was on the codification of the American Dance Syllabus used at BYU.
Holman married his wife Sharon in 1991, whom he met on the Ballroom Dance Company. The couple began their pro career as ballroom dancers. They competed professionally for about seven years, and were the United States, British and World Finalists in Professional Cabaret Dancing several times.
Holman is also a duel licentiate with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. Holman currently serves as the Vice President of Dance for the Professional Organization UAHPERD. Holman is also a member of the National Dance Council Of America.
In December of 2012 Sydney Jensen and Trevor Guthrie, students' of Holman won first place at the California Open Cabaret Championships. They preformed Turned to Stone which Holdman choreographed for them. Holman addressed the Student body of BYU the following year on July 30th with his campus-wide devotional address titled "Raising your Ebenezer - A Monument to Remember." Also in 2013, he served as the artistic director for "eviDANCE," the Department of Dance's 2013 showcase program.
In June of 2017, Holman was selected as the new BYU Department of Dance Chair.
